Highfield WI November members’ meeting

Monday 25th November 2019

__ ladies joined us for a ‘Gong Bath’ experience this evening, arriving armed with blankets, pillows etc. – it looked like we were about to have a Highfield WI sleep-over!

Cath gave out the notices;

  • We received a very appreciative letter from No Limits thanking us for all our donations of gloves, socks, toiletries etc last month.

  • A clip board will be coming around asking members to sign up to bring along either a sweet or savoury item to share at our December social.

  • Members were asked for a show of hands as to whether they ever look at our Facebook page – no hands.  It was therefore decided to close it down and instead make sure our website is kept up to date and informative for potential new members to browse.

  • Oktober books are holding a ‘Meet the Maker’ craft event on Saturday 30.11.  Cath asked for any volunteers who would be willing to give a couple of hours or provide some cakes etc to support this event.  Clare J and Liz Mizon offered but this was not enough interest so we will have to decline.

Cath then welcomed Lara Cockayne.

Lara is a Burley WI member.  She practises reflexology, Reiki and is a Yoga Gong Practitioner.  She gave us some background about the benefits of a ‘Gong Bath’ session and explained how the deep resonances of the different gongs travel through our bodies.  She explained how the session would work and then it was time to turn off the lights and get snuggled down!  The session lasted about an hour but most of us said it felt like about 10 minutes.  There was no talking, just the rather other-worldy continuous sound of these wonderful gongs.  None of us had been to a Gong bath session before and it was a truly immersive experience.  We struggled to come around at the end.  Lara told us to enjoy the refreshments and be sure to stay well hydrated as this helps to extend the benefits of the session.  She took questions and allowed us to have a go with her gongs and feel their effects close-to.

Our wonderful new refreshments team organised hot drinks and biscuits to have at the end of the evening and cleared up too.  Our thanks for their efficiency!

The committee thanked Lara for a most interesting evening.

The evening came to a close at 10pm.
